Brouwer Etudes Side Project: 1-3

I often get asked how I developed both my style and right hand dexterity, or if I play much classical guitar. I'm not a real classical player by any stretch, but I have indeed pulled from some of the repertoire for practice purposes, and none more so than Leo Brouwer's Etudes Simples, or Estudios Sencillos!

I really love these pieces on every level. Seeming simple and straightforward at first, each presents a new challenge that you can chew on over weeks (or years) of practice. I've used a handful as go-to warmup material for years, but after discussing with a student the value of recording yourself to improve your playing, I thought what better way to test my grasp on them than finally doing exactly that?

I do have a nylon-string guitar but as a steel-string player predominantly, I wanted to present them on my primary instrument. I'm starting in batches of three until I get into the really gnarly ones further on!
